Come sit for a while
Kanha Ji's Courtyard is a personal, non-commercial project for the moments when you don't want another productivity app, another habit tracker, or another notification telling you to keep going. Sometimes you just want somewhere quiet to read one verse and breathe.
There are no streaks, badges or points here, and nobody is checking whether you came back tomorrow. If it helps you today, it has done its job.
Some days you read a verse. Some days you write. Some days you just sit there for a few minutes. All of it is fine.
Old words, everyday questions
The Gita is the heart of this whole place. The Courtyard is only a companion to it, and it isn't a replacement for the scripture, your teachers, the traditional commentaries or whatever practice you already keep.
What I've added is a modern layer in everyday language. Open a verse and you'll find the Sanskrit, a transliteration and a translation, then some context for what's happening in the story, what Krishna's words (or silence) point to, a reflection for your own life, a small passage called "If Kanha Ji sat beside you today...", a takeaway, and a few questions to sit with.
Those reflections are mine. They're one person's way in, not an official reading. Treat them like notes in the margin, and go to your teachers and the traditional texts for the real depth.
What you can do here
Arrive
The home screen simply asks, "How is your heart today?" Choose overwhelmed, anxious, angry, lost, in need of peace, or just here to read, and it answers with a few gentle words. You don't have to explain yourself.
Read
All 18 chapters are laid out, and I'm filling in the verses chapter by chapter, so some are further along than others. Search helps when you remember a word or an idea but not where it lives, and Collections gather verses and themes so they're easy to find again.
Reflect
There's a Meditation space with a simple breathing circle and no timer to beat, and a Journey section that looks back gently at how you've moved through the courtyard. If you want some atmosphere, you can turn on quiet ambience like temple bells or flowing water. It never starts on its own.
Write
The Journal is for whatever you feel like putting down after a verse: a thought, a question, something you're carrying. It stays on your device, with no account, no cloud and no analytics on what you write. You can export it as a file and import it on another device. Do that once in a while, because clearing your app or browser data can erase it.
Return
Nothing here asks you to keep up. The Courtyard remembers the last verse you were reading so you can pick it back up, and there's no streak to protect.
Make it yours
Five earthy themes (Dried Leaves, Sandalwood, Forest Earth, Terracotta and Monsoon Soil), nine text sizes for anyone who needs bigger words, and a reduced-animation setting if you want the calm without the movement.
Why I made it
I wanted the Gita to feel like something I could walk into on an ordinary day, not something I had to be ready for. So I built a place that doesn't perform or push. It just sits there with the words and leaves the door open.
A small technical note
Under the hood it's a simple web app (HTML, CSS and JavaScript) built as an installable PWA. This Android APK wraps it as a Trusted Web Activity, so it opens like a regular app without the browser bar. It's offline-first: the app itself, chapters you've already opened and ambience you've already played stay available without internet.
